Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital
Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital is the first tertiary oncology specialty hospital in mainland China to place proton and heavy ion radiotherapy at the core of its technology platform. It was established with investment from the Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center and developed in collaboration with strong disciplinary resources such as Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center. It has built a diagnosis and treatment system centered on precision radiotherapy, multidisciplinary consultation, image guidance, individualized treatment planning, and full-process quality control. Its technical advantages mainly lie in the stronger biological effect of heavy ion high linear energy transfer, the normal tissue-sparing benefit of the Bragg peak dose distribution, and standardized treatment pathways and long-term follow-up databases developed for complex tumors. The hospital has a notable early-mover advantage in China’s advanced radiotherapy field and is one of the key institutions receiving cross-border cancer patients returning for treatment.
